Kitos Farewell Party

A Farewell to Kito

Kito's Going Beach Party Group Shot

Rick Kito is enjoying his farewell party

Longtime resident and friend Rick Kito is pulling up stakes and leaving Yachats. The people of this village will miss him as he has played an important role in this community for the past 18 or 19 years or so. He says he will be back, but the land he's heading for has been his home... Alaska... where more friends and family await his return.

Some folks who don't know him personally have used his services in and around their homes. Many have hired him as a carpet layer, a tile man, general construction, and he is an excellent mason. He's built many a retaining wall on the side of this mountain and his legacy will remain long after he is gone.

I've heard that a chef is "someone that can curse in French" ... I have never heard Kito speak French, but he is one heck of a great Chef.

There are a bunch of going away parties and farewell gatherings in Yachats recognizing Kito and wishing him a good sendoff.

A casual get together of friends at Max and Annie's house speaks to the tradition of Yachats. Good food, Fellowship, and Music... Lots of fun.

We've added 80 pictures from the party to our gallery and invite you to take a look, and enjoy!

May 14th is Kito's birthday and, rumor has it, that there will be a feast on the beach in Kito's honor with an open fire and barbecue... sounds yummy and we can't wait.

If I'm lucky enough to make the beach party I'll be adding more images to the gallery. If not, one of our friends will photograph the event and we will put those up as soon as we get them.

People come and go from Yachats but Kito has been here longer than most. He has many close relationships here, and has created quite a reputation on the Central Coast. We'll be adding to this story as friends recount some of their experiences with Kito for the record.

Max & Annie's Thoughts

Max and AnnieWe've known Kito for a long time now, and there is alot of stuff but, some of the best times we had was when Craig and Sally managed the LandMark. Kito was cookin' !!

I have to say, that was the best food that has ever came out of there. We had so much fun working together! Â We partied so much over the years. Rick was always there to cook. We could count on him for many a benifit, or a wedding (Dave and Joanne) ... Â and Halloween parties were always fun with Marsha!

Everyone loves your fried rice. Mostly, everyone enjoys the smiles and good energy that you give out so generously. Thanks! Â Keep in touch Brother, Love you, Max & Annie

Martie's Thoughts

Marty, Arlene andwow, well the first memory worth telling was my 40th birthday. my mother had been here a few days, and the day of the party she had spent the morning drinking vodka and helping prepare for the festivities.

she enjoyed meeting everyone and was relaxing on the deck when she seen kito come across the cattle guard she exclaimed quite loudly "now there is a nice ass" i was like MOTHER!!!! she said "come on marti, tell me that isnt a nice ass!" i said yes mom thats a nice ass. then i told her she neede a nap, and informed everyone she gets no more vodka!

we almost didnt need any lanterns for awhile that eve because kitos face was still a glowing red when ever my mother came around. my more personal happy memory was the year steve went to the yukon and i stayed home with the gardens and worked at the gift shop.

kito and robin were dating and after they got off from work they'd come hang at the house. kito whom is an awesome cook would go thru cupboards and fridge and have the most wonderful meals prepared when i came home from work, its awesome to remember robin curled up sleeping in the hammok and kito at the bbq creating beautiful meals with a huge glowing smile.......he will always be here in my memories.

Rick Schultze Thoughts

Hey Dawg just a few quick words about Kito...

I have had a "Hey Rick, Hey Rick" relationship with Kito for many years. Since both of our first names is Rick it's a natural, that and the fact that he is a sports fan as I am.

So Rick, rock on and keep on being a good Rick!!

Linda's Thoughts

Linda and Me!

As I think back to the countless times we have seen and visited with Kito over these many years, I recall seeing a 'happy man.'

Kito shared a personal story with Dave and I that confirmed what a self-less and humble man he is - he shared that many years ago he saved the life of a young boy that meant risking his own.

His actions then and now are his legacy. Rarely seen without a smile, Kito is quick to laugh and joke with friends, being supportive and hard working in everything he does.

Kito... as you continue on your personal life's journey, Dave and I wish you smooth roads and a happy heart. Your joyful spirit will remain with us always. Linda & Dome Dave

You will be missed.
