On January 1, 2010 at about 1:07 AM, Daniel Anthony Gopshes, age 60 of Newport, called 911 reporting that he had killed his wife at their home in Beverly Beach and was in the parking lot of the Lincoln County Jail to turn himself in. Newport Police officers responded and contacted Gopshes, who was armed and sitting in his vehicle.
Gopshes was taken into custody without incident.
Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies, Newport Police officers, and Oregon State Police troopers responded to the Benton Street address in Beverly Beach to find Chancey Ann Gopshes, age 86 of Newport, dead as a result of gunshot wounds to the head.
The Lincoln County Major Crime Team was activated. MCT members from the Lincoln City Police Department, The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, The Newport Police Department, the Toledo Police Department, and the Lincoln County District Attorney's Office responded to investigate the incident.
